Batman v. Superman v. Bright Colors

Last week Disney dropped our first look at their superhero slugfest Captain America: Civil War, which puts Robert Downey and Chris Evans on the opposite side of an ideological divide, and yesterday Warners unleashed our latest look at their own super-smackdown pic, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Man of Steel quasi-sequel, which puts in place the various pieces for the expanded DC Comics movie universe while also demonstrating the grimdark color palette that director Zack Snyder seems to favor.

You might recall, I was won over by last summer's Comicon trailer for the pic, which I thought laid out the stakes adequately. If that was our last look at the film until its release, I would've been down with that. I'm still onboard with the latest assemblage, which gives us more of Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne AND Batman, and makes me even more confident that he'll knock it out. I also love that we get to see Henry Cavill as the traditional glasses-wearing reporter version of Clark Kent. That made me happy.

What made me less happy was Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. Not sure what he was going for, but what we see so far doesn't really work for me. Also, between Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and what I can only presume is the super-baddie Doomsday showing up, you start to wonder if there's anything left to really surprise us with. Regardless, Batman v. Superman hits theaters a month before Captain America, which will let it have the battlefield all to itself for awhile. Who will win the superhero throwdown-throwdown? We'll all find out next year! In the meantime, watch the vid below:
