Newt on the March

That the last few weeks have seen Newt Gingrich's presidential ambitions morph from also-ran to frontrunner status is yet another indication of how barren the GOP cupboard has become of viable national candidates, and also how empty Republican rhetoric about family values is when weighed against the prospect of nominating someone the base thinks will unseat the Big Bad Barack (he won't, but that's a separate conversation, obviously). Nonetheless, nowhere is this disconnect more apparent than Gingrich's blowout win in South Carolina last weekend, which many are chalking up to the former speaker's "Screw the media" tour de force during CNN's debate last week after being asked about his marital indiscretions.
