Chimp Happens (Sort of)

I mentioned my hope last week that the promo machine for the newly-retitled Rise of the Planet of the Apes might finally begin to ramp up, and it looks we're starting to see the first inklings of that taking shape. First up, the teaser website just went live today which includes the official logo for the flick, which I like. As you can see above, it nicely uses both the title and typeface to situate the prequel firmly within the lineage of its predecessors. Fox has also released a short synopsis of the project, which doesn't mention star James Franco, but sure goes out of its way to foreground the effects wizards involved:
"Set in present-day San Francisco, Rise of the Planet of the Apes reveals the origins of a war that ultimately led to a global apocalypse – and to Earth becoming the Planet of the Apes. The Oscar-winning visual effects team that brought to life the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings is taking on its most ambitious challenge, creating for the first time a non-human CGI character that delivers a dramatic performance with real emotion and intelligence.
In another indication that Fox is saddling their hopes on the special effects crowd to sell the new Apes epic, in anticipation of the first trailer's release later this week they've also scheduled a live chat this coming Wednesday with the WETA gurus whose job it is to make you believe that CG poop can fly. And lastly, but not leastly, we have our first look (courtesy of the Rise Facebook page) at footage from the film that highlights the work they've put into re-visualizing Andy Serkis as chimp revolutionary Caesar. While it's impressive, no doubt, it's also four freakin' seconds long, so not really much to work with:
